A Universe of Stories: St Cuthbert’s Trust Celebrates World Book Day 2026
On Thursday 5th March, schools across the St Cuthbert’s Roman Catholic Academy Trust transformed into vibrant hubs of imagination. From the smallest classrooms to the largest assembly halls, the annual celebration of World Book Day took centre-stage, proving once again that reading is the heartbeat of our school communities.
Bringing Characters to Life
The day began with a sea of colour as students and staff arrived dressed as their favorite literary icons.
-
Classic Heroes: Rows of Harry Potters and Matildas shared desks with modern favourites.
-
Staff Spirit: Teachers joined the fun, with entire departments coordinating costumes to represent beloved series.
-
The "Pyjama" Experience: In several primary settings, the focus shifted to the comfort of a good book, with "Bedtime Story" sessions where pupils wore pyjamas while listening to staff read classic tales.
Beyond the Costumes: Literacy in Action
While the dress-up days provide the spectacle, the Trust’s celebration was rooted in deep educational engagement. Our strategic commitment to placing reading at the centre of all work was evident through a variety of high-impact activities:
-
Author Meet-Ups: In-person sessions with published authors allowed pupils to peek behind the curtain of the writing process, asking questions to professional writers.
-
Quiz- Time: Students competed in high-energy literature quizzes, testing their knowledge of everything from Shakespeare to Lemony Snicket.
A Strategic Foundation for Success
At St Cuthbert’s Trust, World Book Day is more than just a date on the calendar; it is a reflection of our core mission. We believe that literacy is the ultimate equaliser. By immersing our pupils in a world where reading is celebrated, we are ensuring they have the best possible start in life.
"Reading is the gateway to all other learning. By fostering a love for books today, we are giving our pupils the tools they need to navigate the world of tomorrow with confidence and curiosity."
The energy across the Trust on World Book day was a powerful reminder that when a community reads together, it grows together.
