St Vincent’s VC Academy praised by Ofsted as ‘One Big Family’
Leaders, staff and pupils at St Vincent’s VC Academy in Hull are celebrating following the publication of the Ofsted report from their inspection at the end of the summer term. Inspectors praised the school’s inclusive culture, strong teaching approach and warm community, capturing a vibrant environment where pupils thrive.
The report highlights that St Vincent’s “is a friendly, warm and welcoming school” where “low level disruption is rare and classrooms are calm and purposeful learning environments.” Serving a wonderfully diverse community where pupils speak 29 different languages, the school was commended for fostering an environment where everyone is welcomed and treated equally. One pupil captured the spirit of the school perfectly, telling inspectors, “We are all one big family.”
Ofsted praised the school’s curriculum and its sharp focus on foundational skills in reading, writing and mathematics. Teachers were recognised for successfully using the school’s ‘highly intentional teaching’ model, ensuring pupils make increasingly positive progress. Inspectors also noted that children in the Early Years get off to a positive start, making good progress from low starting points.
In addition to academic progress, the report celebrated the school's commitment to personal development and wellbeing. Pupils actively take on leadership roles, such as Year 6 Anti-bullying Ambassadors and Year 1 Reading Ambassadors, and enjoy rich enrichment opportunities, including performing Shakespeare plays at Hull Truck theatre and attending sports, drama and dance clubs.
Headteacher Philippa Donnelly shared her pride in the outcomes:
”I am incredibly proud of our staff, pupils and school community. This report reflects everything that makes St Vincent’s so special: a place where every child is welcomed, supported and nurtured to grow in confidence, knowledge, and kindness, empowering them to flourish in all that they do.”
Inspectors also commended leadership and governance, noting that “staff are proud to work at the school” and “many parents are extremely positive about the standard of care, support and education” provided.
St Vincent’s VC Academy, part of St Cuthbert’s Roman Catholic Academy Trust, looks forward to building on this success and continuing to deliver an exceptional experience for all its children.
