Sustainability

Our Mission

St. Cuthbert's Roman Catholic Academy Trust has developed a Climate Change and Sustainability Strategy for 2025-2030. The strategy is guided by the Trust's mission to "Cultivate a deep respect for the environment, promote sustainable living, and inspire students to act as stewards of God's creation".

Our Approach

The strategy is organised around the "4Cs" model, which focuses on four key areas:

  • Culture: Embedding a Trust-wide culture of sustainability by promoting shared responsibility and sustainable behaviours.
  • Campus: Decarbonising the estate, future-proofing buildings, and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
  • Curriculum: Integrating sustainability throughout the curriculum and providing opportunities for students to lead environmental projects and learn about green careers.
  • Community: Strengthening engagement with the wider community to build awareness, resilience, and shared responsibility.

The Trust aims to take practical and achievable steps that support sustainable development, aligning with the "people, planet, and profit" model. This approach also draws on the principles of Pope Francis's encyclicals,
Laudato Si' and Laudate Deum, which call for a response to the ecological crisis as an act of social justice
